Class of 1977 Trivia Night

It’s time to start to get excited about our upcoming 45th reunion! We’ve arranged an entertaining evening of virtual trivia so we can all spend some time together leading up to reunion!

 

TriviaHub professionals will take care of all the details – from generating general information questions as well as questions from the ’70s to managing the virtual space.  All we have to do is have fun. So, reach out to your ’77 friends and mark your calendar for Sunday, February 27th at 7:00pm EST!

 

There will be time at the end of the game to chat and answer any questions you might have regarding reunion. Details will also be on Class website.

A Message From Your President

Hello everyone, it’s been a while since I’ve sent an e-blast and I hope you are all doing well and staying safe. During this winter season, your classmates are working diligently on several fronts and I wanted to give you all an update:

From Your Reunion Chairs

We are so pleased to remind everyone that our 45th reunion will be taking place during the weekend of May 27th – 29th, 2022.  Our reunion committee has been hard at work planning many lovely and fun events to celebrate being back together and reconnecting with each other.  We hope to see many of you there!  If you would like to join the fun of helping out with reunion, please contact our Reunion co-chairs – Susan Granahan Colgan or Janet O’Neill Connell  

Social Media

Do you use Instagram? If so, our class is now on Instagram @mhcclassof1977. Search for us and FOLLOW us so you will get all the latest class news on your Instagram feed.  If you post items relative to our class, make sure to list the hashtag #mhcclassof1977 so others can find them. 

And we are asking everyone to share any pictures you may have from your college years, reunions, and any get-togethers you’ve had over the years! We are now on Flickr. at http://www.flickr.com/photos/mhcclassof1977/. Click the big white FOLLOW button to follow us. If you have a bunch of pictures you want to share, you can let us know at mhc77communications@gmail.com and we will give you the login to upload a bunch of photos. 

If you just want to share one or two photos, look up the Group MHC Class of 1977 in the Search Bar at the top and click the JOIN button. Once you are accepted as a member, you will be able to upload photos. (just be aware groups have 30 pictures.)

From Your Class Agents

As of today, our class has donated or pledged just over $86,000 towards our goal of $300,000, with 16% of our classmates have donated so far (with a participation goal of 45% for our 45th reunion year).  And it is easy to donate since there is a link right on our website (https://new.alumnae.mtholyoke.edu/1977/ ).  So I hope we can reach these goals.

Recent Class Zoom Call

I want to thank our wonderful classmates, Ellen Boyle, Christie Horn Barnes and Karen Klussman Lewis who facilitated our very interesting class Zoom call, IMAGINATION: Where It Can Lead And The Creative Writing Process to Capture It. We had 24 classmates join the call, where we learned how Ellen, Christie, and Karen each approach writing in 3 different formats: Fiction, Poetry, and Non-Fiction.  We even did a short imagination exercise before ending the call where everyone took a shot at writing a paragraph using a dozen or so nouns, adjectives, and verbs.  It really was a lot of fun.

It Is Official, Our 45th Reunion is May 27th to May 29th,2022!

We just got the official word, our 45th Reunion will be May 27-29, 2022.

Put that date on your calendar and set aside time to travel and come.

Need Your Help

We need volunteers to help with a variety of jobs and finding lost alumnae.

Assistance Needed:

  1. Help with generating new ideas for class Zoom meetings, contact Liz Lewis Gershon if you have suggestions.
  2. Help identifying the next reunion’s slate of officers.  Find out more on the  Nominating Committee’s page .

From Our Class President: Thanks to Val and Avice

Hi everyone, me again. First of all, I want to send a big thank you to our dear classmates, Dr. Val Barr and Avice Meehan, for again hosting a Class Zoom call to provide an Update on the State of the College, last Wednesday evening, March 10th. We had so many firsts:

· A joint call with the Classes of 1977 and 1978

· A call that lasted 1¾ hours!

· 61 (I think) attendees throughout the evening

· 28 alums staying until the end (7:45)

· Two presenters chatting with each other

I have heard from many of you telling me how much you enjoyed the evening, so I know we can say it was a huge success.

For those who could not attend, it is posted on our Class Zoom Conversation Archive page  

During the discussion, I asked Val and Avice how alums can get more involved with the College, and they suggested:

• Support the Alumnae Fund

• Donate to the “Meet the Moment” fund to support student financial aid (contribute through the annual fund, endowment, etc.)

• Mentor students

• Post job openings with the CDC (Career Development Center)

• Sponsor internships

• Go to events (AA, Class, Regional)

• Become part of the Gates

• Volunteer with the Class of 1977

• Volunteer with the Alumnae Association

• Promote MHC to friends and potential students

Several other notes:

· Our Class Reunion Co-Chairs, Sue Granahan Colgan and Janet O’Neill Connell  are already working hard planning our 45threunion in 2022 (can you believe 45???), and you will be hearing more about this in coming months. If you would like to volunteer to help with this event, contact them, I know they would love to hear from you.

· I am starting to plan our next Class Zoom meeting, Exploring the Creative Process of Writing, so please stay tuned. And let me know if you would like to be part of this by contacting me.

· If anyone has some suggestions for topics for upcoming class Zoom meetings, please contact me, I’m always looking for good ideas.

Did You Participate in the October Survey?

Following the October program, we conducted a survey to solicit feedback on the program and to hear your thoughts on how we communicate, subjects for future programs, and how you’re thinking about reunion. Here are some key takeaways:   

45th  Reunion (tentatively scheduled for May 2022)

  • Great news – 42% of respondents are definitely planning to attend!
  • In addition, 44% are likely to attend. 
 Wow – mark your calendars for May 2022 today!
