Tuesday, December 5, 2023, 5:30 pm:  Lecture by Dr. Justus Doenecke, Professor Emeritus, New College on “Churchill, the Paris Peace Conference of 1919 and the Fear of Bolshevism.”  By invitation of the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of the International Churchill Society at the Sarasota Yacht Club.

Thursday, January 11, 2024, 11:30 amThe Wellesley Club of Sarasota hosted the Smith and Mount Holyoke clubs at Sarasota Yacht Club, featuring Rollins College Associate Professor Leslie Kemp Poole, author of Saving Florida: Women’s Fight for the Environment in Florida and The Wilder Heart of Florida. She shared the stories of “The Three Majories” who were instrumental in preserving the wilder parts of Florida.  One of the Marjories was Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Wellesley class of 1912.

Tuesday, January 23, 2024, 2:00 pmBy invitation of New College of Florida and the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of the International Churchill Society, our club was invited to “A Churchill 150 Forum:Churchill, FDR, and the Waging of World War II.”  Book discussion at College Hall, New College.

Friday, February 2, 2024, 5-7:30 pm:  Free authors’ talk with Fabio Dal Boni and Victoria Reynolds, piano music, cheese and wine at AlexArt International Art Gallery, 25 N. Pineapple Ave, downtown Sarasota. No need to register but email mhcswfl@gmail.com with questions. Ms. Reynolds is the author of Transcending Fear: Rise Above Fear and Fall in Love with Life. Mr. Dal Boni authored An Extra Life: 8 Minutes in Heaven with My Father.

Monday, March 25, 2024, 10:30 am:  Visit to the Sarasota Cuban Ballet School, a unique arts organization specializing in the Cuban training method known for athleticism, passion and grace. The visit will begin with coffee and pastries at 10:30 am followed by a tour and observation of a company rehearsal of upcoming performances. Optional lunch afterwards at Madfish Grill, paid individually. CLICK HERE FOR FLYER.

There is no charge for the event at the Ballet School, but the school will make a request for donations for operations and scholarships. We will meet at the school at 4740 Cattleman Road, Sarasota. There is plenty of parking.  Register by emailing mhcswfl@gmail.com. Please provide your class year and phone number, and whether you will join the optional lunch. Sign-up deadline is March 15th.

Wednesday, April 10, 2024, 10:30 am:  Presentation by Mary Davis Wallace, Public Art Manager, City of Sarasota.  Join us at City Hall for the presentation and an optional lunch at nearby 1592 “Wood Fired Kitchen & Cocktails” following the presentation. The City of Sarasota is exhibiting a capsule collection of original works by the Florida Highwaymen in City Hall. Mary Davis will provide a quick tour of the works and their history after her main presentation.
