August 2022 NorCal Club Newsletter

Dear fellow alums,

As we enter the last month of the summer season, we hope that everyone has had a chance to take a well-deserved break! (And if not, there’s still time! We all could benefit from a little R+R.)

It’s been a relatively quiet summer for the Club. Diana Martinez ‘11 led an alum dog hike with fellow alumna Eleanor Chang ‘78 in Pacifica on July 30th. With their pups in tow, the two walked along the beach and enjoyed lattes afterwards. We hope to plan another dog hike in the future as many alums expressed interest in getting together with other dog lovers. If anyone is interested in leading the next alum dog hike in their area, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We’ll work with you to make it happen!

We are also looking for an individual who might be interested in assisting our communications team. Natasha Payés, communications chair, and Katie Wynen, vice president, work together to produce our monthly newsletter and manage our social media channels, but we would love to welcome another member (or two) to our Board who might be interested in creating social media graphics or updating our website. You do not need to be located in the Bay Area to be a part of the Board as our monthly meetings are held virtually. Email us if this role appeals to you.

Pay Your Dues

Thank you to all of our dues-paying members and those who became Lifetime Members during the 2021-2022 fiscal year. If you want to pay membership dues for fiscal year 2022-2023 or become a Lifetime Member, please do so here. All payments and donations are tax-deductible and help keep our volunteer-run Club afloat. As we gradually return to in-person events, your donations will become more critical than ever as they help us plan and subsidize events, reach a greater number of alums, and build our community. On that note, we would like to recognize Teresa Renaker ‘86, who recently became a Lifetime Member. Teresa is a San Francisco native who attended Lowell High School and later majored in women’s studies at Mt. Holyoke. After graduation, she returned to California and studied law at UC Berkeley. She continues to practice law and currently lives in Berkeley with her spouse Robin and her 22-year-old daughter Max. Teresa enjoys monthly Zoom calls with her MHC housemates, ’85ers and ’86ers who shared the apartment above Woodbridges, the restaurant located in the town green.

As we begin to plan events for the coming months, please reach out if there is programming you’d like to see, an event you’d like to host, or you simply want to say hello. Don’t forget to follow us on Instagram (tag your photos from our events with #mhcnorcal 🤳) and join our Club’s Facebook Page!

Best wishes,

The Board
