Mount Holyoke Fund Phone-athon

A few class agents got together at the FP house on Mar. 12 for an Mount Holyoke Fund phone-athon. I think from now on we can officially call it the Annual FUNd. We had lots of laughs, made some good connections with our FP sisters and raised some money.

We got a big surprise when Kate Rindy (FP08) and Anne Vittoria (FP05) from the Development Office stopped by with two special guests: Chairwoman of the Mount Holyoke Fund Committee Maria Mossaides and the Rev. Funteller Jackson (FP94). Funteller is the first FP to sit on the committee.

Funteller spoke movingly about how, even though her life was full before becoming an FP, her Mount Holyoke education changed her life and gave her a new purpose and sense of satisfaction. She has been motivated to give back to the College ever since graduation.

Maria emphasized that participation is the most important aspect of the Mount Holyoke Fund. “It’s not about giving what you think people expect you to give, it’s what you can give,” she said. “Mary Lyon founded this college with nickels and dimes from the community. Small amounts, sustained over time, get us where we want to go.” She encouraged us to give whatever we can. It all counts and it all matters.

It just so happened that Saturday was also Kay Althoff’s birthday. We dedicated the day to her, and hope that you’ll be motivated to give in her honor.

Currently, we are at 13% participation. This is a very low number, but we only had 14% for last year, so we’re a bit ahead of the game. Our goal amount is $20,000. So far we have $10,653 in gifts and pledges — more than half way there!

Have you given to the Mount Holyoke Fund this year? Now’s the time. Any amount will be appreciated. It’s your participation that counts. Just click on the blue “Give Now” button in the sidebar. And make sure you list yourself as an FP, or your gift won’t be added to our totals.

And you can honor Kay by placing “Happy Birthday Kay” in the comment line.
