Laura Bernstein, 2010 Secretary

LBernstein

Name: Laura Bernstein

Major: International Relations

Hometown:  St. Petersburg, FL

What are you up to now? Living in Midtown Manhattan, working as a customs and international trade specialist for petrochemical importers, and taking advantage of the delicious Georgian food options out in Brooklyn

Class Board Responsibilities: The duties of the Secretary include, but are not limited to taking minutes at all class and officer meetings, archiving a copy of the minutes for class records, distributing class notices, posters, and other information.  She will also compose and distribute a per semester newsletter to the class, keep in contact with all of the class representatives and maintain the class website.

You should email me if you have questions/comments about: Whatever!  Moving/visiting NYC, getting into the energy industry, and Georgia (the country!)

What was your favorite class at MHC and why?  History and Politics of the Republic of Georgia and Oil and Water Don’t Mix, both with Stephen Jones.  These two courses introduced me to the man who would become my mentor, the country that would become my second home, and the industry that I would make my career in.

What was your favorite place at MHC and why?  A tie between Thirsty Mind and Upper Lake.  The perfect pairing of productivity and peace at MHC.

What is your favorite MHC tradition?  Laurel Parade.  It’s a reminder of the legacy we are privileged to be a part of as Mount Holyoke alums and I bawl every time at the magnitude of it all.

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you want to play you and why?  I like to think it’d be a tag team effort between Reese Witherspoon and Meryl Streep.  The former for my young, fun, glamorous years and the later for once I’ve reached Margaret Thatcher-level achievement.  They’re both spunky and fun, but tough and determined.

What song best describes your life?  “Carolina in my Mind” by James Taylor
