Founder’s Day  October 28

Look for your invite to meet and share with prospective students for Mount Holyoke College.

Three-part event in Japantown, San Jose on Sunday, May 3.

The Mount Holyoke Club of the Peninsula is holding a three-part event in Japantown, San Jose on Sunday, May 3. We encourage your participation in these culturally rich events held in one of the last three remaining authentic Japantowns in the United States. San Jose’s Japantown is more than 120 years old.

First, we’ll gather for a no-host brunch at Kazoo, the restaurant located on the corner of Jackson and North Sixth Streets, at 11:30 a.m. After that, we’ll gather at the Japanese American Museum of San Jose (535 North Fifth Street) for a docent-led tour at 12:30 p.m. by Jimmy Yamaichi, a lifelong resident of Japantown. Following the museum tour, at 2:00 p.m. we’ll embark on a docent-led walking tour of Japantown with Warren Hayashi. Please see the attached links for backgrounds on the museum and on the walking tour.

You can opt for one, two, or all of these activities but please be aware that the museum and walking tours are limited to twelve people each. Reservations and pre-payment will be taken in the order received.

Although the brunch is a no-host event, the museum tour cost is $5 per person ($3 for seniors ages 65 and above) and the walking tour is $5 per person. Any additional donation to the club is always appreciated.

If you’d like to attend any of these events, respond by May 1 in an email to Barb Monks, or by calling her at 408-997-8131. Indicate your choice(s) and send your payment to her at her PayPal e-address or via check made out to her and mailed to 1518 Montalban Drive, San Jose, CA 95120. If you are attending only the lunch, no prepayment is needed, but we do need to know for the reservation headcount.
