What\u2019s its backstory?&nbsp;<\/h5>\n<p>Autumn and winter holiday dinners feature a pie made of pumpkins or pecans, but our family favourite uses both ingredients. Pecans, which are abundant locally, come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and tastes \u2013 all delicious.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h5>Lone Star Pecan, Pumpkin, &amp; Bourbon Pie<\/h5>\n<p><em>Serves 6-8. Takes approx. 1\u00bd hours (including 1 hour baking time)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Ingredients:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00be cup brown sugar<br \/>\n\u00bd teaspoon salt<br \/>\n\u00bd teaspoon cinnamon<br \/>\n\u00bd teaspoon ginger<br \/>\n\u00bc teaspoon ground cloves<br \/>\n\u00bc teaspoon nutmeg<br \/>\n2 cups fresh pureed or canned pumpkin<br \/>\n1\u00bc cups light cream or evaporated milk<br \/>\n\u00bc cup bourbon<br \/>\n2 tablespoons molasses<br \/>\n3 eggs, lightly beaten<br \/>\n1 nine-inch chilled, unbaked pie shell with stand-up edge<br \/>\n1 egg white, lightly beaten<br \/>\n\u00bd cup pecan halves<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Instructions:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Preheat oven to 450 degrees<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mix together sugar, salt cinnamon, ginger, cloves and nutmeg. Add to the pumpkin.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gradually beat in cream, bourbon, molasses, and eggs to make a smooth mixture.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Brush bottom and sides of un-baked 9-inch pastry shell with egg white.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Chop half the pecans and sprinkle on pastry shell. Pour in pumpkin mixture and top with remaining pecan halves.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bake 10 minutes, reduce heat to 325 degrees and cook 30 to 40 minutes longer or until the filling is set and a knife inserted into the middle comes out clean.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Serve the pie either warm or chilled, with whipped cream or ice cream, if desired.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Pastry<\/strong><br \/>\nMakes one two-crust pie or 2 x 9-inch pastry shells<br \/>\nSift together 2 cups sifted flour<br \/>\n1 teaspoon salt<br \/>\nCut in 2\/3 cup shortening with pastry blender or two knives until particles vary in size<br \/>\nFrom coarse meal to large peas.<br \/>\nAdd 1\/3 cup water, cold, until dough is moist enough to hold together<br \/>\nRoll out pastry to 1\/8 inch, pat into pie pan, cut to shape, fold over rim, pinch edges<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Source:<\/span> Old recipe box, unattributed<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Name: Virginia Ross Class Year: 1966 Country of Residence: United Kingdom Why is this recipe great?
