What\u2019s its backstory?&nbsp;<\/h5>\n<p>You may have heard recently of the Danish concept \u201cHygge\u201d (pronounced hew-ga).&nbsp; It\u2019s gained quite a following around the world for its emphasis on living in cozy simplicity.&nbsp; Hygge involves candles and wood stoves, book nooks and spending time with friends.&nbsp; It\u2019s about enjoying the simple things in life, really.&nbsp; Though the concept can be applied year round (think beach picnics in the summer, making dinner with a friend in the fall) it is a must during the dark, very rainy winter months of Denmark.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Gl\u00f8gg, I would argue, is a key component of winter hygge, especially in the months leading up to Christmas.&nbsp; It\u2019s hygge in a glass \u2013 a go to drink for small get togethers on those dark nights.&nbsp; It is often paired with \u00e6bleskiver \u2013 small round pancakes (like a golfball) that are dipped in jam or powdered sugar (I would have shared that recipe too \u2013 but it requires a very specific pan).&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Try it this winter and experience a little hygge for yourself!&nbsp; As a side note \u2013 the simple syrup poured in a mason jar together with a bottle of wine is a great hostess present for a holiday party!<\/p>\n<h5>Gl\u00f8gg<\/h5>\n<p><em>Serves &nbsp;&nbsp;6. &nbsp;&nbsp;Takes approx. 30 minutes<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Ingredients:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Syrup:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 cup sugar<\/li>\n<li>1 \u00be cups water<\/li>\n<li>Juice and zest of 2 oranges<\/li>\n<li>Juice and zest of 1 lemon<\/li>\n<li>5 cinnamon sticks<\/li>\n<li>8 star anise<\/li>\n<li>2 tsp whole cloves<\/li>\n<li>Pinch of cardamom<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 bottle of red wine<\/li>\n<li>\u00bd cup dark rum or cognac (optional)<\/li>\n<li>\u00be cups slivered or chopped almonds<\/li>\n<li>\u00be raisins<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Instructions:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Put all ingredients for the syrup together in a pot and simmer for 10 minutes.&nbsp; The strain the liquid.
