“When I arrived at the Moon Ranch in west Texas in 1979 I felt like I was living in a painting. The vistas were stunning, the wildlife was magical, and the livestock peaceful as they grazed the pastures. But the remoteness had its drawbacks. It was an hour’s drive to a carton of milk or the mail. Trying to call my friends or family was impossible as we were one of 6 families that shared a party line.”
