I feel like a kid with a new present. I’ve just learned that I’ll be singing in Carnegie Hall in November, the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, with the chorus of Anne Arundel Community College. What a hoot — better old than never! Bryan and I are so lucky to have such a wonderful school nearby, one of few if not the only community college in the country with an opera department. We’ll sing a new piece by Eric Whitacre, one of my favorite composers; and we’ll be joining other choruses to make up a spectacular chorus for his new piece, “The Gift of the Magi”, in a new arrangement. Four days in New York during the holiday season — what fun! We’ll be meeting up with two grandchildren and their partners, celebrating with dinner and a Broadway show, “The Six”, about the six wives of Henry VIII. Taking in the holiday scene. Now if I just have the time and energy to memorize an entire score — yikes. Lucky me! <\/p>\n
July 26, 2024: And what’s more, I just learned that we will begin the show with composer Eric Whitacre’s “Goodnight, Moon.” Eric has been honored by being the first composer to receive permission from the author\/publisher to produce this piece.
