MHC Professor to Give Gallery Talk
at the Wadsworth on October 27

Anthony W. Lee (http://https://www.mtholyoke.edu/acad/facultyprofiles/anthony_lee), Ida Plimpton Kendall Professor of Art History at Mount Holyoke, will give a gallery talk on “Photography’s Sudden Adventures” at the Wadsworth Atheneum at 12:00 noon on Thursday, October 27. The talk is free with museum admission; meet by the Museum Shop near the main entrance.

Professor Lee will discuss the Wadsworth’s current exhibition, “The Thrill of the Chase: The Wagstaff Collection of Photographs at the J. Paul Getty Museum,” exploring how photographers tracked down their subjects and grappled with the camera’s possibilities and limitations in the 19th and 20th centuries.

The Wadsworth is located at 600 Main Street in downtown Hartford. For directions and parking information, see the museum’s website (https://thewadsworth.org/visit/directions-parking/).

Mount Holyoke’s 2016 Common Read is Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates (Spiegel and Grau, 2015). On Wednesday, September 28, the club will hold a discussion of this important book from 6:30–8:30 p.m. at a West Hartford location.

In a letter to alumnae this summer, Acting President Sonya Stephens wrote, “In assigning Coates’s book, we will create and embrace the opportunity to come together in difficult conversation about structural racism and white privilege, and to envisage ways in which we can act — as individuals and as a college — to change systems, policies, politics and communities, from gun control to twenty-first century segregation.”

To RSVP email Carolyn Dorais at cedorais@comcast.net and she’ll send you the address for the discussion.
