Launching of The Lyon Review

’85Classmates Get Literary

We are happy to announce the launch of The Lyon Review, a new online literary magazine that celebrates the finest fiction, poetry andcreative nonfiction from MHC alumnae and faculty. In additional to original works by both published and emerging writers, The Lyon Review also provides a Community Forum to foster discussion about the writing process, women and creativity, online polls about reading and literature, and interactive reading lists featuring book recommendations from the editorial board.

“Writing is a solitary art form, just as reading is a solitary pleasure. The Lyon Review is dedicated to bringing writers and readers together in the supportive environment that only an alumnae-based magazine can provide,” said fiction writer and essayist Sandi Sonnenfeld ’85, who came up with the idea and serves as The Lyon Review’s Managing Editor. “That support is what made it possible for us to launch this magazine, with alumnae and faculty writers generously volunteering to serve on the editorial board, contribute original pieces, or secure permission from their publisher to allow us to include an excerpt from their latest novel or poetry collection.”

Among the many writers highlighted in the inaugural issue are accomplished poet and prose writer and Professor of English Corinne Demas, whose novel The Writing Circle has just been issued in paperback and best-selling mystery writer Sibella Giorello ‘85, whose latest novel, The Mountains Bow Down, was just released this month. Other work includes poetry by Laura Gross, Candace Hughes and Polly Laslzo, an essay by Shoba Narayan and a new short story by Sandi.

Alumnae and faculty interested in contributing to the magazine can submit online at The Lyon Review. New work will be posted on an ongoing basis, offering lots of reasons for readers to come back again and again.

We salute Sandi Sonnenfeld and fellow classmates Beth Sears ’85 and Sibella Giorello ’85, whom all serve on the Lyon Review Editorial Board along with Laura Gross ‘FP 11, Alice Revane’ 89, Darla Willis Kennerud ’86, Karen Berman ’78, Victoria Medaglia ’72 , and Pam Parker ‘81, who serves as the Community Forum Editor, for creating this thoughtful and entertaining new magazine.
